s an initiative for developing financial leaders in Asian markets, the Asian Financial Leaders Program (AFLP) conducted a comparison study on PNM.
A meeting between AFLP and PNM on Wednesday forged their relationship as fellow financial service developers, with both parties taking the opportunity to share insights on the PNM’s lending business model for underprivileged women through its Mekaar program.
Representing the leaders in ASEAN’s finance industry, 40 AFLP representatives were astonished by PNM’s assistance for Mekaar’s all-women customers.
Sunar Basuki, director of Operations at PNM, highlighted that one of the unique features of Mekaar was its social reengineering products, which have blossomed in the PNM financing ecosystem. With the inclusion of women, this uniqueness further supports PNM’s business performance.
“Financing in Mekaar requires mothers to form groups around their homes and gather every week in PKM [weekly group meetings],” Sanur noted in the PNM tower ballroom on June 14. “Because they are neighbors, they know each other and meet regularly [which means they don’t] hesitate in reminding each other.
The program goes beyond just empowering customers.
AFLP was also intrigued by PNM’s ability to engage young women to work as customer assistants in the field. This was clarified by Sunar. He noted that 97.8 percent of Mekaar’s PNM customer assistants were women who had graduated high school.
Because PNM cares. The company does not only recruit women as its employees, but also supports their respective competence and performance by paving a clear career path for them, ensuring an secure future.
“For those who excel, we also provide scholarships to continue their studies. So this become one of the things that motivates them,” added Sanur.
Sanur believes in the positive outcomes of this program. From the collaborative comparative study, he showed how women’s strength in commitment and responsibility powers over men.
This shines light to on one path women can journey, becoming the driving force for change and representing a fruitful program in PNM’s financing portfolio in the company’s forthcoming performance.
