A

national symposium on human capital held in Jakarta concluded with the presentation of a set of strategies imperative to the advancement of human resources in Indonesia.

The symposium, held jointly by the family of alumni of the Business and Economics Faculty of the Management Magister Study Program (KAFEGAMA MM) and MBA FEB Gadjah Mada University (UGM), had a real impact on formulating policy recommendations for human capital development in Indonesia, marking a crucial step in improving Indonesia’s workforce.

The decision to formulate the imperative strategies was made at a special session led by Sari Sitalaksmi, PhD.

Among the imperative strategies were, first, that human capital should receive attention in all lines of business and not be limited to human resources divisions. Second, human capital should prepare future talents to excel. Third, it was necessary to strengthen collaboration between business, universities and the government to speed up the transition toward a sustainability-oriented digital future.

The symposium was held in conjunction with the celebration of the seventh lustrum of MBA FEB UGM (35 years) and Dies Natalis for FEB UGM’s 68th anniversary.

The event, held at the Grand Ballroom of the JS Luwansa Hotel in Jakarta on Aug. 3, had the theme “Toward the Digital and Sustainable Future: Human Capital Imperatives”. It was attended by 173 participants representing human capital practitioners and senior executives from private, multinational and state-owned companies.

The symposium saw Manpower Minister Dr. Ida Fauziyah giving a keynote speech in which she highlighted the opportunities of the demographic bonus that Indonesia would seize and the government’s policy breakthroughs.

BRI human capital director Agus Winardono, who also gave a keynote address, exposed the development of talents at BRI.

The panelists, who were experts in their respective fields, shared their experience and specific views. Yunus Triyonggo underscored the importance of upskilling and reskilling in today’s digital era. Herdy Herman shared his experience related changes in the mindset of human resources management in the tourism ecosystem. Mark Teoh discussed the Deloitte Workforce Sustainability Framework as an answer to the sustainability challenge.
