PNM must continue to support micro clusters: Deputy finance minister

S

ri Hartaty, a customer of PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM), received recognition from Deputy Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara, during his visit to her sasirangan fabric craft store in Sungai Jingah, Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, on Sept. 29.

"PNM must continue to nurture ultra-micro cluster groups and assist in marketing their products," Suahasil stated.

He also urged PNM to provide ongoing financing and support to empower its customers and improve their quality and status. Suahasil's support was evident as he commended the 14.8 million PNM customers reached as of August this year, emphasizing the need for further growth.

In essence, PNM is working toward empowering its customers through financing and support, recognizing that these two aspects are inseparable.

Sri's journey speaks to the pivotal role PNM plays within the ultra-micro community. She embarked on her business venture with PNM, initially receiving a loan ceiling of Rp 2 million which has now increased to Rp 5 million. The COVID-19 pandemic had a significant impact on her sasirangan fabric business. Despite the challenges, PNM managed to sustain and even grow its customer base amid the pandemic. It was during this time that she joined the PNM Prosperous Family Economic Development (Mekaar) program.

Sri demonstrated to the deputy minister the intricate process of stretching white fabric, explaining that it is the most complex aspect of sasirangan fabric production. She mentioned that the intricate patterns of stretched fabric could take up to a month to complete. She also showed how white fabric is transformed into sasirangan-patterned fabric.

In addition to gaining access to financing, Sri has benefited from various support services provided during Meaningful Weekly Group Meetings (PKM) and the Business Capacity Training (PKU) program by PNM. Her range of products has expanded, including fabrics, shirts, dresses, headscarves and prayer garments. Her business, which initially sold only a few pieces of fabric per month, now packages hundreds of orders monthly.

"I hope that not only customers but empowered women throughout Indonesia can experience the incredible impact of building their businesses with PNM Mekaar," Sri said.
