T Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) is educating the customers of its Mekaar (Prosperous Family Economic Development) program on the importance of setting up their businesses as a sole proprietorship, without a notary deed.
Sunar Basuki, PNM Director of Operations, Digital and Information Technology, introduced this crucial topic at a Business Capacity Development (PKU) event, held on Oct. 5 at Wisma Lasmaria in Serdang Bedagai regency, North Sumatra.
The event was also attended by Yusna Adia, law enforcement subdirector at the Attorney General's Office (AGO), along with 500 micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) businesspeople from Serdang Bedagai and Pematang Siantar, a city in Simalungung regency, also in North Sumatra.
As an institution dedicated to empowering customers through financing and support, PNM is committed to helping ultra micro entrepreneurs scale up their businesses. In addition to providing financial capital, PNM is dedicated to developing intellectual and social capital to enhance the well-being of its customers, especially in terms of economic development, in turn creating a multiplier effect on social and environmental development.
Sunar said that in order to promote MSMEs in Indonesia, simplicity and ease was necessary in the process of establishing a legal entity. Considering that PNM's customer base consisted of subsistence entrepreneurs who ran businesses to meet their daily needs, it would be highly beneficial for them to establish a sole proprietorship, without a notary deed. He also encouraged Mekaar customers to be prompt in fulfilling any legal requirements for registering their businesses.
"Mekaar customers must have the motivation to enhance their businesses. While running a business, they should also begin to address the formal aspects of business, establishing a legal entity to receive legal protection and enhance their business prospects," Sunar told participants.
Even though they were operating at an ultra micro scale, Sunar said he believed Mekaar customers should start separating their personal and business assets to develop an entrepreneurial mindset.
"This activity represents one form of empowerment that PNM provides through business literacy. PNM's commitment goes beyond providing business capital; it also involves guiding customers to advance their businesses," he added.
The AGO’s law enforcement subdirector, Yusna, provided more detailed information on sole proprietorships that PNM Mekaar customers could put into practice.
"In line with the cooperation agreement between the Attorney General's Office and PNM, one of the initiatives is to provide information on the duties and functions of state advocates,” said Yusna.
“Therefore, we are providing understanding to PNM customers about establishing sole proprietorships to enhance the economic prospects of owners of micro and small businesses," she underlined.
PNM's efforts extend beyond providing financing to help achieve sustainable growth of ultra micro businesses. It is this continuous financing and support that distinguishes PNM from other financing institutions.
