he Overseas Indonesia Alumni Association (OIAA), better known by its Indonesian acronym IAPPI, is keen to participate in preparing the blueprint for moving the country toward achieving the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision.
IAPPI, which inaugurated its new daily executives on Oct. 12, said its members were eager to play an active role in driving Indonesia’s advancement by applying the experience they gained in studying overseas.
State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir, who was appointed as the interim coordinating maritime affairs and investment minister on Wednesday, has now been installed as the coordinator of the IAPPI Presidium Council.
Erick, who strongly supports IAPPI’s aspirations, said that in addition to the suggestions and inputs from other circles, the association was expected to provide unique and valuable perspectives in its proposed blueprint to achieve the Golden Indonesia vision.
“Through the collective knowledge and experience of pursuing an overseas education, [IAPPI members] can be a driving force for achieving the nation’s ambitious goals,” the association said in a statement.
“Furthermore, Indonesia is currently in the right moment” with the benefits of the demographic bonus, it said.
IAPPI secretary-general Faruq Ibnul Haqi underscored the importance of preparing the blueprint critically and accurately so the document played a strategic role in embodying Indonesia’s grand vision for 2045.
“The uniqueness and special perspectives that will be contained in IAPPI’s planned blueprint is expected to serve as a useful reference for policymakers that will enable its implementers to execute its various programs well,” Faruq said.
IAPPI’s statement reflects its commitment to ensure that the blueprint will be a highly useful guide in the transformative process that Indonesia will undergo as it evolves into a civilized and advanced nation.
Its members’ diverse areas of knowledge and experience would offer different and valuable perspectives in drafting an effective and sustainable working plan, it said.
“This presents IAPPI’s active role in forming the future direction of the nation,” Faruq added.
Reynaldi Istanto, deputy chair of IAPPI’s daily executive board, said the association was ready to prepare the blueprint.
“The 2045 blueprint is a good initiative to serve as the basis for Indonesia’s future development,” he said.
“To face global competition, we need to have our own blueprint to spur ‘globalization a la Indonesia’, so that we can become a big nation with an advanced economy by 2045,” said Reynaldi, a graduate of University of Antwerp in Belgium.
IAPPI research and innovation director Muhammad Aswin said he would put together a team to respond to the initiative.
“All divisions that operate under [IAPPI’s] research and innovation directorate will contribute their views, drawn from a range of scientific disciplines,” he said.
“The blueprint is expected to serve as an important document for the Indonesian people to use in realizing [the country’s] 2045 vision,” he said.
