PNM enhances customer welfare through the PKU Akbar Program

P

T Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) remains dedicated to improving the well-being of its clients, especially during the Financial Inclusion Month (BIK) 2023. The event featured a series of financial literacy and inclusion initiatives integrated into the Pengembangan Kapasitas Usaha (PKU) Akbar program, or Business Capacity Development program, held at various locations including Ranah Minang in West Sumatra on Oct. 12.

The event was attended by PNM's business director and chairwoman of the West Sumatra Regional Family Welfare Movement (TP PKK), Prasetya Sayekti, head of the Cooperatives and SMEs Office of West Sumatra Province, Harneli Bahar and representatives from the Financial Services Authority (OJK), Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) and state-owned pawn company Pegadaian representing ultra micro holding.

The belief in the power of financial literacy and inclusion as a means to help PNM Mekaar customers transcend barriers to formal and legal financial resources is evident. Consequently, PNM acknowledges the necessity for continuous support and intervention as a financing institution.

"We recognize that a majority of PNM's customers are not yet 'bankable' and possess limited knowledge of secure and appropriate financial products. PNM is here to bridge this knowledge gap, thus enhancing their understanding, bolstering their business endeavors and ultimately improving the well-being of their families," explained Prasetya to the 1,000 clients in attendance.

This commitment aligns with PNM's core mission of empowering customers through financial support and guidance. The empowerment is concentrated on improving customer welfare, particularly through economic development, which has a cascading effect on social and environmental advancement.

Financial literacy and inclusion are facilitated through collaborations with BRI and Pegadaian. This includes the simultaneous opening of Simpedes UMi accounts, the establishment of BRILink agents for Mekaar customer group leaders, the provision of Business Identification Numbers (NIB) and the initiation of gold savings accounts at Pegadaian for selected Mekaar customers.

During the same event, PNM also symbolically undertook a social and environmental responsibility program by planting trees in Nagari Balai Panjang, Lareh Sago Halaban district, Lima Puluh Kota regency in West Sumatra, and presented them to the Balai Panjang village chief. "This underscores PNM's commitment to not only empower underserved communities but also contribute to environmental preservation, thereby aiding the government in achieving its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)," added Prasetya.

Harneli Bahar, who is also the wife of the governor West Sumatra, conveyed her appreciation to PNM, especially to the account officers (AOs) who have played a crucial role in the growth of SMEs in West Sumatra. She also commended the top 20 AOs and encouraged them to maintain their enthusiasm in supporting SMEs in their respective regions.
