he Directorate General of Culture of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology has successfully and triumphantly organized the National Culture Week (PKN) 2023, which took place from October 20th to 29th. The PKN was centralized at the National Gallery building and held at 40 different locations throughout Jabodetabek, captivating the public's interest.

Hilmar Farid, Director General of Culture at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, hopes that the entire PKN event can inspire the public to advance culture and promote the preservation of the Earth, ensuring the continued sustainability of culture, as reflected in its theme, "Caring for the Earth, Caring for Culture."

"What we presented during the National Culture Week from October 20th to 29th, 2023, is the result of collaborative efforts in cultural advancement. This should continue, emphasizing that cultural progress should be a collective and collaborative effort. In the future, we will make it even more appealing and beneficial for the broader public," Hilmar stated.

Hilmar Farid explains that PKN is one of the implementations of the cultural advancement strategy agreed upon during the 2018 Indonesian Cultural Congress. "This activity serves as a platform to realize and provide space for the appreciation, expression, and diverse artistic and cultural creations, thereby supporting the creation of inclusive cultural interactions across Indonesia," he adds.

Hence, Hilmar hopes that the upcoming PKN in 2025 will be even better with greater involvement from various communities and cultural practitioners. "We have already begun researching how to make the next PKN more sustainable," Hilmar noted.

The closing of PKN 2023, centered around the East Flood Canal (BKT) in East Jakarta, was festive and successful. Thousands of people enthusiastically witnessed the River Granary Parade along the Cisadane Ciliwung river. Hilmar Farid, Director General of Culture at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, delivered a speech at the River Granary Parade, officially closing the National Culture Week 2023 in the East Flood Canal on Sunday, October 29, 2023.

The River Granary Parade marked the end of PKN 2023. Hilmar said, "PKN 2023 has concluded, and we will see you at the next PKN in 2025."

Hilmar explained that the closure of PKN 2023 in BKT was not just a tourist event, especially for Jakarta residents; it was also significant for the community. Thus, he hopes that such activities continue to thrive.

"Rivers are vital for human life. Hopefully, activities on the river will not only serve as tourist attractions but also increase people's awareness of the importance of rivers. Our rivers are rich in wisdom," Hilmar continued.

In addition to the River Granary Parade, the closing of PKN featured ritual performances by Trisna Sanjaya, Swara Tirta (Sinau Art), a mini Reyog parade, Ayu Dila & Raa Ondel-ondel from Reog Ponorogo, models, young lumping dancers, popular folk performances, PM TOH, Rombong Dangdut, Jecko Siompo & Animal Pop Family.

Hilmar emphasized that the entire PKN program is expected to inspire the public to promote culture and advocate for the preservation of the Earth to ensure culture's sustainability. "What we have presented during the National Culture Week from October 20th to 29th, 2023, is the harvest of collaborative efforts in cultural advancement. This must continue, emphasizing that cultural progress should be a collective and collaborative effort. In the future, we will make it even more appealing and beneficial for the broader public," Hilmar stressed.

Before the River Granary Parade, the closing event of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology's Culture Musrembang was held jointly with the National Development Planning Ministry of Indonesia (Bappenas) and took place at the Bappenas Reception Room and concluded on October 20-29. The event involved community and cultural practitioners who collaborated with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology and Bappenas to discuss cultural advancement in the country.

Taufik Hanafi, Secretary of the National Development Planning Ministry/Chief Secretary of Bappenas, welcomed the Culture Musrembang event held at the Bappenas office. The Musrembang event officially designated Bappenas as a national cultural heritage site on October 25.

"We are pleased that the Culture Musrembang is organized by Bappenas. We will surely carry out what comes out of Musrembang well to support cultural advancement in our country," said Taufik.

He pointed out that while some areas are successful in terms of culture, there are also many areas that are not. Therefore, the hope is that through Musrembang, culturally underdeveloped regions can thrive, with the participation of cultural practitioners.

Bappenas also emphasizes that cultural advancement should go hand in hand with technological progress. "Cultural advancement areas must grow. Regarding cultural advancement, we must also consider technological progress and address the important factors that hinder institutional and legislative aspects," Taufik explained.

"Recommendations from cultural communities and practitioners will be thoroughly reviewed, including those related to cultural advancement areas. We will further discuss these matters in a more concrete form," he added.

The conclusion of the Musrembang event coincided with the conclusion of the National Culture Week (PKN) 2023. The PKN event, initiated by the Directorate General of Culture of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, was successfully held at 40 locations in Jabodetabek, and it received enthusiastic support from the public from October 20 to October 29.
