T

he president director of PT PLN, Darmawan Prasodjo, has been honored with the Male Executive of the Year award at the prestigious Power & Energy Awards 2023, organized by Enlit Asia on Nov. 14. The recognition is a result of his successful efforts in leading the digital transformation within PLN and accelerating the energy transition in Indonesia. PLN also received four other awards, marking a significant achievement during the three-year run of the Enlit Asia awards so far.

The four awards include; Power Utility of the Year, Innovation of the Year for the PLN Mobile application, Renewable Energy & Sustainability Project of the Year for the Cirata Floating Solar Power Project and ASEAN Electrification Project of the Year for PLN’s efforts in electrification of Kalimantan.

Portfolio director of Energy for Clarion Events Asia, Simon Hoare, explained that through Enlit Asia, they aim to engage various stakeholders, educating on and advancing the energy transition in Asia.

"At Enlit Asia, our goal is to foster greater collaboration across the industry by connecting and involving all stakeholders in the energy sector in Asia. This includes regulators, technology providers and energy consumers, bringing international perspectives together on one platform to take action toward a sustainable energy future in Asia," Simon Hoare explained.

Regarding the Power & Energy Awards 2023, Simon also clarified that the event recognized those fully committed to the energy transition in the Asian region. The winners are objectively determined by a panel of 34 distinguished judges with diverse backgrounds as professionals, experts and academics from various countries.

"This award serves as a benchmark and acknowledgment to the public and business world that has gone beyond the limits in promoting progress in the power and energy sector in Asia," Simon added.

In the two previous iterations of the Power Energy Awards, the winners were predominantly from Malaysia's Tenaga National Berhad (TNB), Singapore's SP Group and Thailand's Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT).

For the Male Executive of the Year category, PLN's president director Darmawan surpassed nominations from executives of other companies, namely Korea Southern Power (KOSPO) from South Korea and HDF Energy from France. In the Power Utility category, PLN emerged as the best, surpassing Bakun Hydro Power Generation from Malaysia, Ho Chi Minh Power Corporation from Vietnam, SP Group from Singapore and Tenaga Nasional Berhad from Malaysia.

Darmawan expressed gratitude for the award from Enlit Asia. He saw this recognition as the result of PLN's transformation efforts in responding to current global challenges.

Thanks to PLN's transformation efforts over the past three years, the company has changed from a backward-looking to a forward-looking entity. PLN's business processes, once manual, have now transitioned to end-to-end digital operations, covering generation, transmission and distribution to support the energy transition.

"We are currently facing the same challenge, which is climate change. Therefore, we are building the most environmentally friendly electricity planning in history. We have developed a more aggressive strategy to accelerate the use of new renewable energy," Darmawan stated.

However, Darmawan continued, to face these challenges, PLN could not progress without collaboration.

"Through this event, we share PLN's dreams. We will build a strong foundation for strong collaboration in the future," he added.

Darmawan mentioned that the awards were the result of the hard work of all PLN personnel in improving the company's performance and service to the public. Therefore, this recognition would serve as a motivator for all PLN personnel to continue innovating and providing the best service to the community.

"This award is dedicated to the 60,000 PLN personnel who work hard to serve customers better," said Darmawan.
