BPIP looks back on 2023 milestones, achievements

T

he Pancasila Ideology Development Agency (BPIP) in Jakarta marked the end of the year with its 2023 reflection at the Radio Republik Indonesia Auditorium in Jakarta on Monday. The gathering, taking the theme of Reflecting on the Achievements of Pancasila, celebrated the BPIP's accomplishments, outlining successful programs and projecting future initiatives for 2024.

“The BPIP conducts comprehensive and sustainable coordination, synchronization and control of Pancasila ideology development, as well as implements the formulation of educational and training standardization," stated BPIP head, Yudian Wahyudi, during the event’s opening.

"Throughout 2023, the BPIP has without doubt encountered various challenges. Some have been considered motivation, while others have become lessons," he added.

Among the highlights of 2023 was the collaboration between the BPIP and the Education, Culture, Research and Technology Ministry in creating the Primary Pancasila Education Textbook (BTU). Released in August, the textbook distinguishes itself from the existing civic education books by emphasizing practical applications of Pancasila values for students and teachers, catering from elementary to high school levels.

The curriculum for the BTU aligns with Government Regulation No. 4/2022, mandating Pancasila as a compulsory subject in the education system. Its launch aimed to reintegrate Pancasila teachings, focusing on national identity formation through the understanding of Pancasila's core values and their application.

Additionally, the BPIP has made strides in academic publications with the launch of the Pancasila: Journal of Indonesian Studies (PJK), accredited with a Science and Technology Index (SINTA) 3 by the Education, Culture, Research and Technology Ministry, which signifies the BPIP's commitment to scholarly discourse, aiming for increased accreditation beneficial to societal progress.

Throughout 2023, the BPIP conducted extensive educational programs for Pancasila Education (PIP) and BTU across various regions in Indonesia, reinforcing the importance of Pancasila in shaping the nation's identity. A symposium titled Pancasila as Weltanschauung in Manado brought together academics, cultural figures and government representatives to formulate policies reintegrating Pancasila as a worldview in legislation.

Moreover, the BPIP formulated essential policy documents outlining the direction for Pancasila Ideology Development and finalized a road map for its implementation in 2023. The agency also published diverse materials, including comics and books, aimed at revitalizing Pancasila's significance in society.

"We have organized planned, systematic and integrated Pancasila Ideology training and education," Yudian remarked.

The BPIP's commitment to mainstreaming Pancasila values remained evident through its efforts to nurture future leaders, exemplified by the flag raising group (Paskibraka) program. This initiative seeks to instill Pancasila values in youth, preparing them as potential future leaders rooted in nationalism and Pancasila ideology. Over 12,000 members underwent Pancasila Ideology Development training in 2023.

Furthermore, the BPIP actively monitored policy conflicts with Pancasila values and provided recommendations to various government bodies. Plans for the Pancasila economic system bill formulation were underway to align economic policies with Pancasila principles.

With achievements like the BTU launch, scholarly publications and efforts to embed Pancasila values, the BPIP remains committed to its mission. Looking ahead to 2024, the body aims to further its institutional development, intending to be an indispensable pillar in safeguarding and promoting Pancasila's essence throughout Indonesian society.

"With strong determination and collective effort, we believe the BPIP will be highly needed by the community in safeguarding and mainstreaming Pancasila comprehensively," he concluded.
