Jokowi invites Yogyakarta Sultan to meet 5,000 PNM Mekaar customers at Bantul event

A

mid a lively atmosphere, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Yogyakarta Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X warmly greeted 5,000 customers of PT Permodalan Nasional Madani’s (PNM’s) Membina Ekonomi Keluarga Sejahtera (PNM Mekaar; Building Prosperous Household Economy) program at Keyongan Kidul Sabdodadi Field in Bantul regency, of the Yogyakarta Special Region in Central Java, on Tuesday morning (Jan. 30, 2024).

This is the second such event after the President met 2,500 PNM Mekaar customers in Magelang on Monday (Jan. 29). At Tuesday’s event, however, the President invited the Yogyakarta Sultan to forge closer ties with customers of the PNM Mekaar program, which specifically targets female household heads.

“I am confident these women’s efforts are clear and will improve over time,” the Sultan emphasized.

President Jokowi urged the women attending the event to continue to be productive and to work hard in their various endeavors.

“Earlier, I bought this out front, paid Rp 15,000 for these trousers. It's extraordinary and highly competitive,” the President said while highlighting some of the products made by PNM Mekaar customers.

PNM CEO Arief Mulyadi also expressed his appreciation as he explained the positive impact his company had in empowering Indonesia’s ultra micro enterprise sector, especially after PNM had joined Bank BRI and Pegadaian to establish Ultra Micro (UMi) Holding, a financing institution targeting ultra micro businesses.

“In 2016, PNM Mekaar had about 400,000 customers and today, PNM Mekaar has reached 15.2 million [customers] from Sabang to Merauke,” Jokowi told those gathered.

PNM remains committed to providing its customers with the three main types of capital: financial, intellectual and social. This commitment is evident through the various training programs PNM Mekaar offers to enhance its customers’ businesses and productivity. Financing and guiding customers make up the secret recipe of PNM, which has succeeded in minimizing nonperforming loans.
