ddressing 3,000 PNM Mekaar customers at South Tangerang City Hall on Monday, President Jokowi examined products produced by the women attendees, which he noted for their attractive packaging.
"This is chili sauce, spicy lightning chili sauce. This one is good, and the brand – I asked earlier – the brand is Wanstin. The brand is really cool, Wanstin chili sauce," said Jokowi.
"I asked the what was meant by Wanstin. ‘Oh, this is Wawan and Gustin, sir,’. This is good," he continued, eliciting laughs from the audience.
The President praised the creativity of Mekaar customers' products competing on the market. Combining the names of their children and husband, the Wanstin product was an example of good branding.
"Indeed, when a product is given branding, a brand, a name, it's easier to sell," said President Jokowi.
PNM Mekaar is a financing and mentoring institution for underprivileged Indonesian women through the ultra-micro sector. Thus, beyond just providing business capital, it offers various training opportunities to improve product quality. So far, there have been 15.2 million PNM customers throughout the country.
