AYANA invites guests to discover the true magic of Nyepi

A

s Indonesia gears up to celebrate Nyepi (Day of Silence), no island is more prepared than the Island of the Gods. Nyepi is part of the Bali’s most sacred religious festival marking the start of a new year in the Balinese Saka calendar, which this year begins at 6 a.m. on Mar. 11. To celebrate the holiday, AYANA Resort in Bali is inviting guests from near and far to immerse themselves in one of the most cultural moments the island can offer.

In line with AYANA’s commitment to preserve the cultural heritage of Bali, the resort offers Captivating Nyepi Retreat, a special stay offer that immerse guest in the festivities and tranquilities of Nyepi.

This year, the Captivating Nyepi Retreat starts on the day before (Mar 10), known as Pengrupukan, when giant Ogoh-ogoh statues are paraded to ward off evil elements, and create balance between humanity, nature and the spiritual realm.  AYANA Resort presents Ogoh-ogoh parade at 4 p.m. on Mar. 10, which guests are encouraged to join. AYANA Resort worked with local communities in nearby Jimbaran and Gianyar to create two large Ogoh-ogoh, which will be paraded from AYANA lobby and RIMBA lobby to the SAKA Garden at SAKA Museum.

The resort also recently become best destination to learn about Nyepi, Ogoh-ogoh, and all forms of traditional and contemporary Balinese culture with the recent introduction of SAKA Museum in late 2023, which will also complement the resort’s special Captivating Nyepi Retreat, offering museum tours to those who wish to learn more about the celebration. SAKA Museum is currently open for guests staying at AYANA and limited general public via reservation. The museum will open to public at large in 2024.

"AYANA Resort’s Captivating Nyepi Retreat is an immersive experience that invites guests to deeply connect with Balinese culture and this truly magical time of the year,” said Giordano Faggioli, general manager of AYANA Resort. “With SAKA Museum as our cultural hub, this year's Ogoh-ogoh parade and the special performance reaffirm our commitment to celebrating and preserving the extraordinary culture of this island. Join us on this journey to strengthen your connection with Bali and experience the profound meaning of Nyepi."

The Nyepi Retreat package also includes a one-time dinner for two at RIMBA by AYANA’s dramatic amphitheater venue Kampoeng Bali on Mar. 10. Guests are invited to savor a cultural feast for the senses and be mesmerized by a sunset procession and traditional dance and music performances.

Of course on the day of Nyepi, most of the locals will observe the holiday by focusing on self-meditation for renewal. To truly immerse in one’s wellness, guests are invited to join sunrise and sunset yoga, guided walks through the tranquil gardens of AYANA, and group sound baths to harness the healing power of resonant sound waves.

the Nyepi Retreat includes a one-time complimentary Thalassotherapy Treatment at the Aquatonic Pool of AYANA Spa for two persons. With the Indian Ocean as a background, it is hoped that the experience will provide serenity and peace for the new year.

As the sun descends, experience the magic of the island by stargazing, as the night sky is to be filled with the brightest stars of the entire year. To accommodate this unique activity, AYANA invites guests to partake in the resort’s stargazing event at 8 p.m. at RIMBA Lawn to witness the wonder of the sky blanketed in stars.
