Indonesian Fund Becomes Solution for Artists to Access Funding Outside of Banking

N

ot all artists, especially those in the performing arts, have sufficient capital. So far, access to funding from banks for artists has been limited. The Indonesian Fund disbursed from the Cultural Endowment Fund becomes a solution for them.

Among the performing arts artists who have benefited from the Indonesian Fund is Scholastica Wahyu Pribadi. As the founder of Loka Art Studio, she received support from the Indonesian Fund for the institutional category. With this funding, they can provide mentoring and seek out young talents in the Gunungkidul area, Yogyakarta.

"For us, the Indonesian Fund is very supportive, especially for performing arts," she said on Saturday (9/3) night. She revealed that many performing artists have not had sufficient funds to stage performances.

Yet, for these artists, performance activities are crucial. Not only for survival, but also for building relationships or networks. According to Scholastica, through the Indonesian Fund, the government provides support for efforts to strengthen and develop culture.

She explained that from a beneficial aspect, the disbursement of the Indonesian Fund is very significant. "Especially for us who are in the art business, it's very difficult to find investors," she said. In addition, banks are also very reluctant to provide credit to performing artists.

With the Indonesian Fund, Scholastica said, Loka Art Studio can now implement incubation programs for performing artists. They are supported not only in technical artistic matters but also in shaping strong leadership and entrepreneurship.

She admitted that there are many promising artists in Indonesia. But she doesn't want these talents to fall into thorny places and die. These talents must fall into fertile ground and be nurtured. According to her, the Indonesian Fund acts like fertilizer. Thus, these young artist talents can thrive.

In a previous opportunity, the Director General of Culture of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Hilmar Farid, explained that the Indonesian Fund is the utilization of the Cultural Endowment Fund. The main objective of this program is to position the public and cultural actors as initiators and drivers of cultural advancement. Over time, the Indonesian Fund has contributed to building a strong foundation for cultural growth and advancement in Indonesia.

Hilmar said that funding from the Indonesian Fund is also aimed at strengthening the cultural ecosystem in Indonesia. A concrete example is various community-based cultural activities. These include art productions, cultural research, and participation in world cultural forums. "These activities encourage Indonesian artists and cultural workers to innovate more actively and increase their creativity," he said. (*)
