P

resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo inaugurated a groundbreaking on June 6, marking the start of  construction of PLN Hub, dubbed the first and largest energy transition ecosystem and digital service enter in Indonesia, in the heart of the new capital Nusantara.

At the occasion, the President said that PLN Hub would serve as a meeting point for all stakeholders.

“I really appreciate the construction of PLN Hub, which will serve as a place where all stakeholders and partners related to PT PLN will gather,” President Jokowi said.

He added that PLN Hub would accelerate the energy transition program and attract diverse investment in Nusantara.

“Every investor looking to enter Indonesia, whether it be a data center, what they ask is whether green energy is available or not. Another investor is keen to enter to build an aluminum industry, what he asks is whether you can provide green energy or not,” the President said.

At the same occasion, PLN president director Darmawan Prasodjo explained that PLN Hub was not only for PLN, but also for a big ecosystem housing business partners and networks collaborating with PLN in relation to the energy transition.

“We have also communicated with our business partners and networks made up of a range of top international companies. Our collaboration with them will further continue at our office in Nusantara,” Darmawan said.

With regard to the development of new and renewable energy (NRE) for Nusantara, Darmawan revealed that a solar power plant (PLTS) with a capacity of 50 megawatts was ready for operation at full capacity at the upcoming ceremony to celebrate Indonesia’s Independence Day. What is more, PLN is also preparing a hydropower plant (PLTA) to supply clean energy-based power to Nusantara.

“By the end of last year, Pak President inaugurated the groundbreaking of the PLTS in Nusantara and we carried out our task. Insya'Allah [God willing] on Indonesia’s Independence Day on Aug.17 in Nusantara, the electricity will be fully generated from new and renewable energy sources. We have also prepared hydropower around Nusantara, so that the electricity will be generated 100 percent from NRE,” Darmawan said.

“On behalf of PLN, I thank the government for providing a very strategic site for the construction of PLN Hub. PLN Hub is located only about 1 kilometer away from the State Palace and it has an area of about 1.39 hectares of land,” Darmawan explained.

“We are entrusted to translate the vision of future Nusantara, which is modern, futuristic and green from the side of electricity. Thank you for giving us an opportunity to build PLN Hub, right in the heart of Nusantara,” he remarked.

Darmawan went on to say that the construction of PLN Hub adopted the concept of “Geen, Smart and Beautiful”.

“We’ll build PLN Hub merging with nature and harnessing the nation’s best architects. We guarantee that PLN Hub will serve as an epicenter of research and development. The epicenter for collaboration of business, technology and education that will support Nusantara and the energy transition in Indonesia,” Darmawan added.

He said the site would also become the hub in the area for telecommunications for PLN ICON Plus. Along with PT Telkom, PLN is also building fiber optic infrastructure for the Multi Utility Tunnel (MUT) for telecommunications, an inseparable and integrated part of the electricity infrastructure.

Comprising three buildings, each with 14 floors, PLN Hub will come complete with a central office, a commercial center, a green hydrogen park, a study and research center, a data center, a laboratory center, employee residences, a sports center, a health center and a creative center.
