n line with national energy resilience, PT Pertamina and the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) signed a cooperation agreement (PKS) for the development of sustainable energy policies. The signing took place on June 10 at the Bappenas Building in Jakarta.

The agreement was signed by National Development Planning Minister/Bappenas Head Suharso Monoarfa and Nicke Widyawati Pertamina president director and CEO.

Minister Suharso stated that this cooperation reinforced the commitment of the government in addressing the global climate crisis through the National Development Planning Ministry/Bappenas and Pertamina.

He emphasized that synergy is crucial and can accelerate the utilization of the energy transition while maintaining national energy resilience. This effort is aimed at achieving the Golden Indonesia 2045 target.

"We have best practice collaboration in the field implemented by Pertamina. We aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve net-zero emissions, but at the same time, we also need clean energy, whose demand will increase four- to five-fold with environmentally friendly energy. Meanwhile, we are also promoting the complex petrochemical industry in Indonesia; therefore, we hope to keep cooperating until we reach Golden Indonesia 2045," said Suharso.

Committed to sustainability, Nicke stated that this strategic cooperation demonstrates Pertamina's seriousness in achieving national energy independence, including the use of low-carbon energy in alignment with government measures.

"Pertamina, as a business entity, must align its steps with the government, given its main role in maintaining energy security, affordability and environmental sustainability, while also continuing to promote carbon emission-reduction programs," emphasized Nicke.

Additionally, the synergy between Bappenas and Pertamina includes joint studies and the development of an energy policy road map on national energy resilience, downstreaming of oil and gas, and the commercialization of the energy transition. Additionally, the studies also include the implementation of environment, social and governance (ESG) activities, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), policy dissemination and information exchange related to the energy sector to support Indonesia's transformation.

To enhance efficiency and sustainable innovation, the cooperation also encompasses the technological innovation and refining the quality of human resources (HR) in the energy sector.

"We must achieve several goals in line with the SDGs. The PKS has been signed to develop excellent HR to carry out all future sustainable business and generate a green economy. Energy transition for Indonesia is not just about reducing carbon emissions but also about boosting GDP and absorbing as many workers as possible," explained Nicke.

Pertamina's vice president of corporate communication, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, added that the collaboration between Bappenas and Pertamina would be utilized as part of the Nusantara Sustainability Hub in the new capital city Nusantara, the construction of which commenced last week with a breathtaking ceremony led by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

He stated that the Nusantara Sustainability Hub will be an innovation center supporting the sustainable use of energy resources. "The cooperation between Pertamina and Bappenas is expected to strengthen the Nusantara Sustainability Hub as a catalyst in the principles of ESG and SDGs," said Fadjar.

The Nusantara Sustainability Hub is supported by the Pertamina Sustainability Experts as brainware, comprising experts from Pertamina and universities, including Pertamina University, in the field of sustainability.

As a pioneer in energy transition, Pertamina is committed to supporting the net-zero emissions 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the achievement of the SDGs. This is realized through the implementation of integrated ESG and SDGs activities within the Pertamina Sustainability Academy.
