P

T Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) supports the preservation and development of national assets and culture. This includes promoting traditional herbal tonics made from local spices. Recently, PNM's Business Capacity Development (PKU) program conducted comparative studies and training on traditional jamu (herbal tonic) making.

PNM president director Arief Mulyadi emphasized that jamu, as national assets, must be preserved, utilized and developed. He believes this could be achieved by promoting herbal tonics through a socioeconomic lens to encourage understanding and modernize their appeal. To this end, PNM and the State-Owned Enterprise (SOE) Ministry are organizing the Herb Euphoria Fest, a competition for crafting modern jamu. This competition aims to inspire national pride and innovation in developing herbal tonics with technological advancements.

"Our country is rich, with 24,927 medicinal plants and 13,665 traditional herbal formulations identified in 26 provinces outside Java. This presents immense socioeconomic development potential," said Arief.

The event will take place in Sarinah mall in Jakarta on June 22 and Living World Mall Bali on June 29. Participants aged 17-45 are eligible to compete, and should have basic knowledge of traditional jamu making. Prizes include Rp 5 million (US$307) for first place, Rp 3 million for second place and Rp 2 million for third place. Those who participate in Jakarta cannot compete in Bali.

Arief also urged the public to take pride in Indonesia's jamu heritage. "Let's make jamu esteemed in our own country and esteemed product abroad," he concluded.
