T Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) through its Purwokerto branch has initiated a small-scale bucket fish farming (budidamber) clustering program at Mekaar Unit Sumbang 2, Banyumas. The program introduces an engaging concept where villagers can cultivate fish in their yards.
PNM independent commissioner Nurhaida attended and participated in the budidamber practice with other female participants. Nurhaida said this program had the potential to serve as a source of household food security in rural areas. Budidamber is not only easy but can be done by anyone.
“This can be a source of household food security, providing both personal consumption and business opportunities. Villagers are known for their community spirit, enabling them to manage and develop the potential of fish farming in buckets together,” Nurhaida explained on Thursday (20/6).
The female participants agreed with Nurhaida, seeing budidamber as a significant way to enhance family food security and provide a healthy protein source. One participant, Nani, followed instructions from a PNM-facilitated fish farming trainer.
“It’s really easy, just prepare a bucket, take your catfish seedlings, place them in the bucket and install a floating raft on top for planting vegetables,” Nani said cheerfully. Within a few weeks, the catfish are expected to grow well, and fresh green water spinach will sprout on the floating raft.
Nurhaida added that PNM's clustering program will be optimized to fit the conditions of each area. She hopes that budidamber clustering would be carried out continuously by villagers, providing positive economic and social impacts.
“Their spirit of togetherness and hard work is an inspiration to many. It shows that with innovation and cooperation, positive change can happen anywhere, including in small, potential-filled villages like Banteran,” she concluded.
