tate-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Tohir is reviewing the readiness of SOEs as regards the development of energy infrastructure and facilities in Nusantara Capital City (IKN).
These include the gas network being built by PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN), a gas subholding company of PT Pertamina (Persero), which is committed to providing clean energy to the nation’s new capital in East Kalimantan.
According to Erick, the government is working together with state-owned enterprises to develop a green industrial area in the new capital.
“We are planning that in 10 to 15 years, there will still be some [conventional] industrial areas, but mostly green industrial estates,” said the SOEs minister.
During the review, Pertamina Deputy President Director Wiko Migantoro explained that Pertamina was prioritizing the gas network for providing energy in Nusantara.
“We will replace it with a gas network that supplies natural gas. Its construction is integrated with the development of other utilities, such as a water [supply network], gas lines and electricity [grid],” said Wiko.
The gas network (jargas) is to supply natural gas to various vertical and detached housing units that serve as the official residence of ministers and civil servants. In the Central Government District (KIPP) of Nusantara, the network will be installed in several stages. PGN is ready to meet customer needs with the initial stage installation, which is expected to be operational by August 2024.
In addition to developing a gas network in the new capital, Pertamina is also planning to build the Pertamina Sustainable Energy Center, which includes the Pertamina Sustainability Academy, the Pertamina Training Institute and the Pertamina Research and Innovation Center for Sustainable and Low Carbon Technologies.
Pertamina, a company at the forefront of Indonesia’s energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net-Zero Emissions 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that contribute directly to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These efforts are also in line with the implementation of environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles across all business lines and operations of Pertamina.
