ertamina New & Renewable Energy (NRE) has officially signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Coal Power Generation Company Bangladesh Limited (CPGCBL) for a 500 megawatt solar power plant project in Moheshkhali and other potential areas in Bangladesh. The MoU was signed by Abul Kalam Azad, CPGCBL managing director, and Fadli Rahman, Pertamina NRE acting CEO, at the Crystal Ballroom, Hotel Intercontinental in Dhaka on Monday (15/7). The signing was also witnessed by Nelwin Aldriansyah, Pertamina NRE chief financial officer.

The signing of the MoU is a follow-up to the government-to-government (G2G) MoU signed between Indonesia and Bangladesh in 2017, after having undergone a feasibility study by the two energy companies. This MoU also includes the development of supporting facilities and serves as the basis for further cooperation based on mutually agreed terms and conditions. This strategic collaboration marks a step towards utilizing renewable energy solutions and developing infrastructure in Bangladesh.

"We warmly welcome the collaboration between CPGCBL and Pertamina NRE. CPGCBL is a leading power company in Bangladesh, and Pertamina NRE has the capability and experience in managing a clean energy portfolio. I am confident that this strategic partnership will not only enhance our operational capabilities but also drive growth, innovation, mutual success and support Bangladesh's national energy security," said Nelwin Aldriansyah, Pertamina NRE CEO.

CPGCBL's managing director Abul expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership with Pertamina NRE. "We are very excited about this collaboration. Pertamina NRE has considerable experience and a strong clean energy business portfolio in Indonesia. We hope this cooperation will promote the development of clean energy in Bangladesh and be mutually beneficial for both parties," Abul said.

CPGCBL is a state-owned company of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, established as a public company with the primary business objective of generating electricity. The company is mandated to implement power plant development schemes under Bangladesh's Private Sector Power Generation Policy, public-private partnership (PPP) policy, or other government policy frameworks.

The signing of the MoU between CPGCBL and Pertamina NRE is a significant milestone on the path to a sustainable energy future for Bangladesh. The Bangladeshi side were proud to partner with Pertamina NRE, part of PT Pertamina (Persero), a Fortune 500 company. This partnership is expected to bring significant advancements in the renewable energy sector, contributing to energy resilience and sustainability for a cleaner future in the country.

PT Pertamina Corporate Communication VP Fadjar Djoko Santoso stated that the cooperation with CPGCBL was part of Pertamina NRE's efforts to seize business expansion opportunities abroad. "We support Pertamina NRE's expansion, in line with its expertise in managing new renewable energy. As a subholding, Pertamina NRE also demonstrates its commitment to growing its business independently," explained Fadjar.

Currently, Pertamina NRE operates over 2.7 Gigawatts of power generation portfolio, including gas-to-power, solar PV, geothermal and biogas.
