"This year, we call on participants to discover their potential, as participating in the Elite Label Maybank Marathon requires seriousness and full commitment in facing challenges in every chosen running category. We hope that through the Discover a New You theme, participants can transform and achieve better results at the Maybank Marathon 2024," emphasized Maybank Marathon project director Widya Permana.

As in previous years, the Maybank Marathon will feature categories such as marathon (42.195 kilometers), half marathon (21.0975 km), and 10K, as well as children sprint and wheelchair categories, with a total prize of Rp 2.7 billion (US$174,744) for 86 winners.

This year, the Maybank Marathon is joined by over 12,700 participants, with a 17 percent increase in Marathon category participants to 3,400. This is the largest number of participants in the Marathon category among other running events in Indonesia.

In the spirit of Discover a New You, the Maybank Marathon has also introduced the Indonesia Fast Runner category, a category for Marathon runners who meet the qualifying time to be sent to the Boston Marathon 2025. The Indonesia Fast Runner is for two male and two female runners.

Widya said Maybank Indonesia continues to strive to improve the quality of the Maybank Marathon event each year, both from a technical aspect with the selection of a new location, and from the aspect of the race, theme and series of activities.

Sustainability initiatives will also color the Maybank Marathon 2024 event, with runners actively participating in reducing the environmental impact of the Maybank Marathon on Bali. There are 13 sustainability initiatives to be highlighted at the Maybank Marathon 2024, including mangrove planting at Taman Arboretum Benoa, the inauguration of an organic waste management project at the Eco-village in Gianyar and other initiatives such as shoe donations and auctioning, the use of reusable silicone cups and solar-powered charging stations.

Additionally, Marathon runners have the option to run while donating through the Run for Charity program. The donations collected will be channeled to recipients through the NGO partners of Maybank Marathon 2024.

Ahead of the Maybank Marathon 2024 event, the organizers have prepared 12 international elite athletes (six men and six women) as required by the World Athletics federation for Elite Label events and 10 national runners (five men and five women) as the Bank’s participation in promoting the sport of running.

In terms of the route, the organizers have also received certification from the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), a partner of World Athletics, in connection with the relocation of this year's Maybank Marathon. They have also coordinated intensively with the government and police of Bali province, medical teams and pecalang (traditional Balinese security) who will be on guard along the race course.

"All technical preparations for the event have been made well in advance, including safety aspects for Maybank Marathon 2024 participants. Our event organizer partner is already in Bali and has started preparing the infrastructure to support the Maybank Marathon 2024. With all these preparations, we are ready to welcome participants starting from the first day of race pack collection on Friday, Aug. 23, 2024," concluded Widya.
