he Indonesia Energy & Engineering (IEE) Series is back in town, with the latest technological innovations and solutions to support national vital industrial sustainability through diverse collaborations.
Themed “Advancing Industrial Sustainability”, the IEE Series 2024, Southeast Asia’s largest exhibition in the energy and engineering sector, features Energy Week, kicking off on Aug. 28 and will run through Aug. 31, and Engineering Week set to be held from Sept. 11 to Sept. 14, at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta.
The two events occupy an area of more than 100,000 square meters, with additional outdoor area, involving 3,800 exhibitors participating in nine exhibitions.
With the expanded coverage, Pamerindo Indonesia, which organizes the IEE Series 2024, demonstrates its commitment to sustainability through wider national and international collaboration, engaging young people and students, business people, micro-small-and middle enterprises (MSMEs), the government, universities, associations and communities.
The ongoing Energy Week features two exhibitions themed, “Smart Urban Development & Sustainable City” centred around electricity and energy represented by Electrics & Power Indonesia; and water and waste management through Water Indonesia.
Meanwhile, Engineering Week will cover seven exhibitions featuring vital national sectors: the mining sector under Mining Indonesia; the construction and concrete foundry sector under Construction Indonesia along with Concrete Show Southeast Asia-Indonesia; the oil and gas sector under Oil and Gas Indonesia and co-located show GIFA Indonesia and METEC Indonesia casting; the foundry and metallurgy technology sector; and the disaster management and civil protection sector under Asia Disaster Management & Civil Protection Expo & Conference (ADEXCO).
“Indonesian industries continue to develop and strive to seek more sustainable innovations en route toward the 2045 Golden Indonesia vision,” said Pamerindo Indonesia country manager Lia Indriasari.
Energy Week and Engineering Week will strive to answer these needs, she explained. “These can either be sustainability from the side of more environmentally friendly technology innovations, sustainable human resources for industry in the future, or from the side of the holding of an exhibition model that pays more heed to sustainability for the overall aspects,” she said in a media briefing in Jakarta recently.
“We want to bring about bigger impacts on the development of sustainable industries in Indonesia and these can be realized through diverse collaborations, either the government, associations, local and international industrial players, or students as the next generation or young engineers.”
The goal aligns with one of the government’s targets set out in the National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN) for 2025-2045, emphasizing the importance of embodying the continuation of development through scaling up human resources capacity, acquiring technology and transforming industrial infrastructure and facilities and collaboration among development-supporting sectors.
As such, the IEE Series 2024 presents various sectors, with programs designed to accommodate diverse interests and the goals of the respective sectors.
These include business matching, podcasts and various hybrid seminars, with interesting topics in every industry, such as the Indonesia Water Forum, themed “Transformation of Tap Water Toward the 2045 Golden Indonesia Vision” in collaboration with the Indonesian Tap Water Companies Association (PERPAMSI); a seminar on the advancement of solar panel and electric vehicle (EV) supporting trends by the Indonesian Electricity Community (MKI), topics on decarbonization, energy efficiency and technological innovations in mining to be discussed by the Indonesian Mining Service Association (ASPINDO); and topics on technological innovations in the oil and gas industry to be presented by the Directorate General of Oil and Gas at the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry.
ASPINDO chairman Ari Sutrisno explained that the downstream industry policy set by the government had led to the Indonesian mining sector developing and “this has sparked collaboration with many international industry players. This will accelerate technological advancement and scale up human resources capacity in the mining sector in Indonesia.”
“Our participation in the IEE Series 2024 is partly based on our interest in exploring an opportunity for collaboration and discussions to achieve human resources potential and mineral reserve targets in the national mining industry toward the 2045 Golden Indonesia vision,” he said.
Apart from efforts to pursue sustainable industries and increasing state potential thanks to the government policy in the mining sector and oil and gas sector, the IEE Series 2024 is also supported by the Directorate General of Housing at the Public Works and Housing Ministry in holding the exhibition of Construction Indonesia and Concrete Show Southeast Asia.
The construction sector, one of Indonesia’s five biggest sectors, has succeeded in increasing Indonesia’s infrastructure development ranking to 27th globally, from the previous 34th. The development of quality infrastructure is also a key to accelerating the increase in the investment potential to enter diverse industries in Indonesia.
Indonesian Builders Association (Gapensi) deputy secretary-general Musa Kadzim Anwar also emphasized the importance of technological innovations in order to increase the Integrated Construction Service Information System (SIJKT). “Efforts to enhance technology and digital transformation require learning and knowledge sharing with many parties,” he said.
“Through the IEE Series 2024, we can learn the developments in technology, not only in the construction sector, but also in other related sectors,” he noted.
Last year, the IEE Series succeeded in attracting more than 2,000 exhibiting companies, part of which were present through seven pavilions comprising tens of representative countries. With the success, the IEE Series has become a platform for discussion, and network for the mutual exchange of experience and knowledge about global technology advancement.
Technological innovations
The IEE Series 2024 is back to present a range of technological innovations, largely because the demand for more sustainable technologies has shown a rising trend in Indonesia.
The Indonesia Water Forum (IWF) that will be presented in collaboration with PERPAMSI reflects the organizer’s commitment to serving the IEE Series 2024 as an educational platform for visitors.
PERPAMSI’s executive director Subekti expressed his appreciation, saying, “Through the Indonesia Water Forum we want to present the transformation of tap water industry management, one of which is through the increase in technology skill, digitalization and exchange of knowledge with other countries. That’s why, the upcoming IWF will be attended by representatives of the Southeast Asia Water Utilities Network [SEAWUN] members and will become a platform for discussion and the right information dissemination. Here, we can discuss together with many industrial actors and enhance technological collaboration along with national and international industrial players.”
Indonesia Smart Grid Initiative founder and chairman Eddie Widiono said that the 22nd Electrics & Power Indonesia held in conjunction with the IEE Series would ignite international collaboration potential, especially with regard to the development of renewable energy technology and power storage.
“We highly appreciate the IEE Series 2024 activity in Indonesia. Currently Indonesia has great potential to become a major player in the new and renewable energy sector, such as carbon capture storage and EV battery development,” Eddie said.
Furthermore, Indonesia is pursuing the Enhanced Nationally Determined Contribution (ENDC) for emissions reduction to 31.89 percent in 2030 by its own endeavors and 40 percent with international support.
“The IEE Series 2024 that allows energy industry players and national and global electricity players to meet each other can accelerate the process of achieving the target,” Eddie said.
Duo co-located show, GIFA - METEC Indonesia and ADEXCO will add to a long list of participating international exhibitors in order to provide an opportunity for network collaboration for national industrial players.
GIFA-METEC Indonesia is being presented through collaboration between Pamerindo Indonesia and Messe Düsseldorf Asia to present technological developments and innovations in metal casting, metallurgy and the steel industry.
In Engineering Week, GIFA-METEC Indonesia will discuss the importance of collaboration between the government and private sector in advancing the sector because the development of technology and the capability of human resources in the sector has the potential to realize Indonesia’s dream of becoming one of the biggest economies in the world.
GIFA-METEC Indonesia in the IEE Series 2024 will collaborate with the Indonesian Metal Casting Association (APLINDO) and the Indonesian Machine and Metal Working Association (GAMMA).
Apart from that, the IEE Series 2024 will also collaborate with the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) to support the holding of co-located forum ADEXCO themed “Advancing Resilience Sustainability”. The multi-helix collaboration-based forum involves the Australia-Indonesia Partnership for Disaster Risk Management (SIAP SIAGA), ASEAN Secretariat, GFSR and ADEXCO 2024.
ADEXCO aims to provide technological innovations and solutions pertaining to disaster risks, development of disaster mitigation technology, infrastructure resilience, regulatory and policy issues, supply chain resilience and across industry collaboration.
Diverse international exhibitors that present technological innovations and solutions related to the development of various potential energy and engineering sectors in Indonesia not only attract national industrial players, but also young people or students majoring in techniques who attend under a student visit program and the SHARE-PIE technological innovation competitions program.
This year, the SHARE-PIE program, themed “Innovation Opportunity In Indonesia Energy Sector” will return to be held in the final day of Energy Week.
The IEE Series 2024 has also supported students and the young generation by holding Charity Golf Tournament under the program, “Connecting the Disconnected”, a form of Pamerindo Indonesia’s commitment to realizing the theme “Advancing Industrial Sustainability” that the IEE Series 2024 is raising. The program was held in Royale Jakarta Golf Club Halim Perdana Kusuma, Jakarta on Aug. 18.
The proceeds from the charity golf tournament will be earmarked to strengthen the educational sector in the form of scholarships, especially provided to produce young engineers in Indonesian universities.
