ertamina Group has held various corporate social and environmental responsibility (CSER) programs, ranging from raising the Indonesian flag underwater and preserving the maritime ecosystem, to cleaning up the Ciliwung River, holding business development strategy workshops aimed to create prosperous families and providing scholarships.
State-owned PT Pertamina Corporate Communication VP Fadjar Djoko Santoso said that various CSER activities were carried out by Pertamina to improve the public’s welfare and the environment in celebration of the 79th anniversary of Indonesian independence.
"As a state-owned enterprise, Pertamina is committed to running CSER programs that have a positive impact on the public and the sustainability of the ecosystem throughout the company's operational areas," he stated.
Fadjar added that Pertamina held various special activities in August as a form of gratitude for the blessings that have been received by the Indonesian people thanks to the country’s independence.
PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) took part in activities by raising the Red and White flag underwater, an act that signifies their celebration of Indonesia’s 79th anniversary, and undertaking coral reef transplant operations to maintain the Gili Trawangan area’s ecosystem and sustainability.
The series of activities took place on Aug. 17, 2024, with BerSEAnergi untuk Laut (clean energy for the sea) as its theme. The activities made up Pertamina’s program for the sustainability of marine ecosystems and the welfare of coastal communities.
The raising of the Indonesian flag under the sea was also carried out by PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN), Pertamina's gas subholding unit. The flag raising was done in the waters of Tabuhan Island, Banyuwangi, East Java, by PGN workers together with the surrounding community.
PGN also carried out its Junior Sea Guard program at State Primary School 1 Bengkak in Banyuwangi, which is a teaching program to educate school students about nature conservation, especially the sea, and the role of natural gas as a transitional energy.
Meanwhile, PT Pertamina Patra Niaga collaborated with the Environment and Forestry Ministry, the Depok City administration and members of the Care for Ciliwung River Community to carry out river cleaning activities as part of Ciliwung Festival 2024. The activity has been carried out since Aug. 10 comprising community and student education to care for the environment, river cleaning action and raising a 79 meters long Indonesian flag on Aug. 18.
"The purpose of this activity is to provide education to school children and communities about the importance of waste management to reduce the risk of disasters such as floods and landslides," Fadjar explained.
In Lampung, the PGE Ulubelu operating unit enlivened the Indonesian Independence Day by holding the Healthy, Prosperous and Independent Family (Kamasetra) Food Processing-Based Business Development Strategy Workshop in Ulubelu on Aug. 15. This activity was held to create a sustainable environment, starting from nutritious food processing to improve local families’ living standards.
Meanwhile, in Kalimantan, PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) distributed scholarships to 15 students across Kalimantan through the Sobat Bumi Kalimantan Scholarship (BSBK) program. The program provides full scholarships to high school graduates and equivalents who are selected to pursue undergraduate education at universities in Kalimantan. The scholarship handover was officially held at an inauguration event in Balikpapan City, East Kalimantan, on Aug. 16.
"Pertamina's various CSER programs are in line with the theme for [this year’s] Independence Day, namely Nusantara Baru Indonesia Maju [New Nusantara, Indonesia’s Progress]. Pertamina hopes to [support Indonesians] advance together to develop the nation," Fadjar said.
Pertamina's CSER programs take place not just amid the Indonesian Independence Day, they are enacted continuously to realize Pertamina’s concern for the community and the environment. They are also in line with Pertamina's commitment to become a driving force of the country's economy.
