Innovation and Digitalization for Entrepreneurs to Accelerate MSMEs Growth in Indonesia One of the MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) entrepreneurs is doing a business pitch at the Innovation and Digitalization Entrepreneur for Advanced Acceleration (IDEAL) event at BRIN, Thursday, October 10, 2024.

T

he Indonesian Technology Innovation (INOTEK) Foundation, in collaboration with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and with the full support of the Sampoerna Entrepreneurship Training Center (SETC) under the umbrella of the Sampoerna for Indonesia sustainability program, held the Innovation and Digitalization for Entrepreneurial Advancement (IDEAL) event on Oct. 10 in Jakarta.

The IDEAL event was the highlight of the UMKM Untuk Indonesia/UUI (micro, small and medium enterprises for Indonesia) program, which aims to support MSMEs in using research and technology to grow their business.

This year’s UUI marked the program’s second edition, and focused on accelerating MSME development by building their capacity in digital marketing to enhance their competitiveness, contributing to the government's goal of digitalizing 30 million MSMEs by 2024.

A total of 1,000 MSMEs in Jakarta and West Java have benefited from the program, which has empowered them by enhancing their entrepreneurial skills and digital know-how through training materials and practical tools, including digital marketing platforms and digital payment systems.

The UUI program culminated in the IDEAL event, which awarded five winning MSMEs in the business pitching competition, as well as hosted a mini showcase, a panel discussion and an MSME networking session.

Through its collaboration with the BRIN, the UUI program also aims to apply technology to add value to the products of selected MSMEs, as well as enhance their business capacity through activities including expert consultations. The program also assists MSMEs in areas such as improving product quality, using packaging technology and scaling up production.

Speaking at the IDEAL event, BRIN head Laksana Tri Handoko, expressed his appreciation and support for empowering MSMEs through innovation and technology.

"We are ready to collaborate in providing research-based assistance to MSMEs mentored by the SETC. Through this collaboration, it is expected that innovation and technology can improve product quality and help MSMEs succeed in the global market," Laksana said.

Arief Triastika of Sampoerna for Indonesia said the SETC was committed to supporting the growth of MSMEs in Indonesia, particularly through digital transformation.

"Under the umbrella of the Sampoerna for Indonesia sustainability program, we consistently support the MSME sector to continue growing as one of the main drivers of the national economy," he said.

Sachin V Gopalan, an Advisory Board Member of the INOTEK Foundation, expressed his hope that the participating MSMEs would be able to enhance their competitiveness and apply digital technology in their operations so they could adapt to the rapidly changing business environment and contribute to the economy.

Since its establishment in 2007, the SETC has provided both online and offline training sessions to more than 72,000 MSME entrepreneurs nationwide. The UUI program is one of the many training and mentoring initiatives the SETC has carried out over the past 17 years for MSMEs across the country.
