tate-owned oil-and-gas-giant Pertamina has expanded vehicle registration for its MyPertamina fuel app to cover 37 cities and regencies across the country as the company seeks to ensure subsidized-fuel distribution is not abused.

Starting in July, Pertamina has required customers register their vehicles on its website to buy subsidized gasoline or diesel, but Pertamina is yet to bar unregistered customers from purchasing subsidized fuel, saying it would wait for the government’s cue and that the public needed to be familiarized with the measure first.

On July 1, the company began opening registration for customers in 11 cities and regencies in five provinces, namely Bukit Tinggi, Agam regency; Padang Panjang and Tanah Datar regency in West Sumatra; Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan; Bandung, Tasikmalaya, Sukabumi and Ciamis regency in West Java; Manado, North Sulawesi; and Yogyakarta.

Pertamina-subsidiary Pertamina Patra Niaga West Java, Bali and Nusa Tenggara region, said that six cities and regencies in the region have been included in the expansion.

Deden Mochammad Idhani, Pertamina Patra Niaga regional spokesperson, said on Tuesday that registration has been opened in Madiun, Mojokerto and Malang, East Java; Badung regency in Bali; Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara; and North Timor Tengah, East Nusa Tenggara.

“As of Tuesday, more than 79,000 vehicles have been registered [across the country],” Deden said in a statement.

Pertamina will use the vehicle data to determine whether a customer is eligible for purchasing subsidized gasoline or diesel and possibly for further analysis in accordance with regulatory needs.
