Former deputy minister killed in road accident

Achmad Hermanto Dardak, former public works deputy minister, was killed as a passenger in a car that hit a truck on Pemalang-Batang Toll Road in Central Java early on Saturday.

chmad Hermanto Dardak, former public works deputy minister, was killed as a passenger in a car that hit a truck on Pemalang-Batang Toll Road in Central Java early on Saturday.

Central Java Police spokesman Sr. Comr. M Iqbal Alqudusy said Hermanto’s driver Angga Saputra fell asleep at the wheel and rear-ended the truck in front of his Toyota Innova car at around 3:25 a.m. on their way to Jakarta.

“The Innova was running at 100 kilometers per hour when it hit the truck,” Iqbal said. Driver Angga survived the accident with only minor injuries, whereas Hermanto suffered major injuries and died on the scene.

Hermanto Dardak, 65, was the father of East Java deputy governor Emil Dardak. He held the deputy minister post from 2009 to 2014 under then-president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. (dre)
