Deputy Bali governor Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardhana Sukawati said President Jokowi would have the final authority in deciding whether Israeli players could join the tournament, scheduled for August this year on the resort island.
he provincial administration in Bali has referred any decision regarding the participation of the Israeli team at this year's World Beach Games to President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, following the U-20 FIFA World Cup debacle.
Deputy Bali governor Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardhana Sukawati said President Jokowi would have the final authority in deciding whether Israeli players could join the tournament, scheduled for August this year on the resort island.
"We're waiting for a directive from the central government. We're waiting for the President's decision on this," Artha was quoted by Kompas.com as saying.
Artha, however, expected that Bali could remain as host of the games and other international sporting events in the future, as the local economy depended so much on tourism.
"Our hope is that these kinds of events could be part of the strategy by the central government to bring in more tourists," he said.
The Indonesian Olympics Committee (KOI) has said that Israel can take part in the World Beach Games.
KOI chairman Raja Sapta Oktohari said that so far there had not been any request to cancel the participation of the Israeli team.
