ocal police are investigating the death of a 43-year-old woman who is thought to have fallen down an elevator shaft at Kualanamu International Airport in Deli Serdang, North Sumatra, on April 24.
Deli Serdang Police chief Adj. Sr. Come. Irsan Suhaji said the police have questioned several people, including members of aviation security, the airport management and technicians, but have yet to name any suspects.
“We are looking into whether negligence lead to the victim’s falling,” Irsan told The Jakarta Post on Monday.
The body of Asiah Shinta Dewi Hasibuan was found decomposing at the airport on April 27, after she was reported missing three days earlier.
Raja Hasibuan, her brother, said Asiah was at the airport to meet a nephew who was departing to Malaysia on April 24 at around 7.30 p.m.
“In her last phone call with her niece, she told her she was trapped in an elevator on her way to meet her nephew,” Raja said.
Raja said his family had asked the airport management to check the CCTV recording thoroughly after losing contact with Asiah, but the management refused citing procedure. The family was also forbidden from checking the elevator CCTV.
Asiah's family members asked airport officials to help look for her, and when they failed the family members continued their own search to no avail.
Irsan said the police had conducted a pre-reconstruction to ascertain the chronology of the incident. “But we have no conclusions yet,” he said. (dre)
