Gerindra executive chairman Sufmi Dasco Ahmad told reporters that the idea to pair Gibran and Prabowo could be one possibility but no concrete steps had been taken to realize the plan.
A senior politician of the Gerindra Party said on Wednesday there had been no discussion to tap Surakarta Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka, the eldest son of President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo as a running mate to Prabowo Subianto in the 2024 presidential election.
Gerindra executive chairman Sufmi Dasco Ahmad told reporters that the idea to pair Gibran and Prabowo could be one possibility but no concrete steps had been taken to realize the plan.
"Within Gerindra, there have been no talks about the idea," Sufmi said, as quoted by Antara.
Sufmi said should the plan to pair Prabowo and Gibran materialize, it would first have to clear the legal hurdle of the 40-year age threshold for presidential and vice presidential candidates to run in the election.
In March this year, the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) filed a judicial review petition to the Constitutional Court to change the age limit.
"We first need to see the outcome of the judicial review," Sufmi said.
The senior Gerindra politician also added that Prabowo would have to consult with National Awakening Party (PKB) chairman Muhaimin Iskandar before making his vice presidential pick.
