An online video ad by Italian fashion brand Gucci has been banned for featuring a model deemed to be "unhealthily thin".
The Guardian reported that the UK-based Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) had stated that the ad irresponsibly showed an overly thin model and called on the company to use responsibly prepared images in its future ad campaigns.
The ad, published on The Times website late last year as part of Gucci's Women's Cruise 2016 digital campaign, features several models dancing to a song with still images of each of them shown at the end the video. ASA claimed that one of the female models, who was seen leaning against a wall, appeared to be unhealthily thin and had a gaunt-looking face because of her sombre facial expression and dark makeup.
Gucci reportedly responded that the complaint was more of a subjective matter and that instead of being "unhealthily thin", the models had “slim builds". (kes)
