span style="letter-spacing: 0.1px; line-height: 20.8px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);">Wireless technology firm Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. introduced Tuesday its latest processor, dubbed Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 1100, in a bid to keep up with the vast growth of wearable devices.

The Snapdragon Wear 1100, which is specified for smartwatch, fitness tracker, smart fabric and headset, to name a few, is the next generation of the firm's earlier Snapdragon Wear 2100.

The new processor is able to accommodate users' demands for smaller devices with lower power consumption, smart sensing and secured location and always-on-connection experiences, Qualcomm's smart wearables segment senior director and business lead Pankaj Kedia told a press conference in Taipei on Tuesday.

Qualcomm is holding several events in conjunction with the 2016 Computex exhibition, which runs until Saturday.

"Over the next two years we will have multiple wearables, such as [smart] glasses, headsets, watches, medical bands and high technology fabric," Kedia said, adding that his firm was excited about a projection that around 7 million of the global population would own multiple wearable gadgets in the future.

The firm's data show that more than 100 wearable gadgets use Qualcomm's technology while more than 80 percent of Android Wear smartwatches are based on the Snapdragon processors. The sister company of the Nasdaq-listed Qualcomm Incorporated also provides technology for the world's first LTE-connected smartwatches.

"You expect us to be there," said Kedia, announcing that his firm would focus on smartwatches for kids and trackers.

Qualcomm also announced at the same event partnerships with several gadget companies, such as Miami-based startup wearables company WeBandz, Munich-based embedded software and hardware development company Anda Technologies and South Korea-based device company Infomark.

"We are in touch with Indosat [Ooredoo] and are working very closely to ship [smartwatches for kids] to Indonesia," said Infomark communication director Hyun Jung-koh, adding that the products' certifications were in process.

He expressed hope the watches would be available in the country in this year's second half.

Indosat, however, was not immediately available for comment.

Informark has produced JooN and JooN 2 smartwatches series for kids. The gadgets are available in South Korea and other countries around the world. (dmr)
