ouTube announced Tuesday that it could now stream videos in High Dynamic Range (HDR), allowing viewers with HDR TVs and monitors to take pleasure in content with increased color range, contrast and clarity.
Prior to this, YouTube’s highest video resolution was 4K.
"We’ve added product features and made new video and audio formats available to everyone, from HD to 4K video, live streaming, 3D, 360-degree video, and spatial audio. Today we are adding support for High Dynamic Range [HDR] videos on YouTube," said the company on its official blog. "HDR videos have higher contrast, revealing precise, detailed shadows and stunning highlights with more clarity than ever. Support for wide color gamut means colors are more vibrant."

Aside from watching HDR video content, creators can also upload HDR videos to YouTube, a feature also available for PS4 Pro users who intend to upload HDR quality video game cuts to YouTube, as reported by kompas.com.
HDR video streaming is only available for computers, laptops or televisions that support such display technology. “As more HDR devices become available, YouTube will work with partners to enable streaming of HDR [formats]," said YouTube. (mra/kes)
