he fitness scene in Indonesia is ever-growing with the emergence of new yoga studios and TRX training clubs, along with more avid exercisers in search of places to sweat their calories away. Not only can the routine of exercising prevent obesity, diabetes, heart attacks and strokes, it can also steer the mind away from stress and help a person sleep better and more comfortably.

Despite such facts, the company has also recorded data regarding the three most favored forms of exercise in Indonesia with running ranking first (60 percent), followed by cycling (55 percent) and swimming (45 percent).
Dr. Rachmad Wishnu Hidayat, SpKO, explains that running is the most preferred type of exercise because, apart from it being the cheapest form of calorie burning -- no special equipment has to be purchased in advance, it has proven to be effective in maintaining the health of the heart, stabilizing blood sugar levels and is also beneficial to mental health.
“When we run, endorphin hormones will rise. These hormones will reduce the feeling of pain and evoke emotions of happiness and calmness. Therefore, stress levels will decrease too.”
However, Sun Life has found the three main reasons why people fail to realize a healthy lifestyle: 44 percent of people blame a lack of time because of their demanding jobs, 36 percent say that distractions keep them from exercising, and 35 percent think it costs too much to live healthily.
