ow much will certain people pay to prevent baldness? A lot. The latest transplantation technique called direct hair implantation costs between Rp 30 million (US$2,248) and Rp 90 million per session. The first technique to be introduced in Indonesia costs Rp 30,000 per hairpiece and each session usually involves between 1,000 and 3,000 hair implants. This means the technique, which is only available at Farmanina hair clinic in Tebet, South Jakarta, is more expensive than the price of a square meter of land in South Jakarta.

However, some people are willing to pay. These people are usually those who are very well compensated in their work, including soccer superstar and Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney.

Despite the high price tag, Auda Rusdin, one of the doctors and therapists at the clinic, said their clients, mostly men age 35 and over, were satisfied with the service and regularly came back for another session to cover more bald areas on their heads.

“Having quality and quantity in terms of hair can be very important for people because baldness can hurt their confidence,” Auda said during a recent live video presentation at the clinic.

Auda then explained that the technique was more expensive than others because of its advanced methods and superior results.

The implantation, even though it mirrors other techniques by extracting hair follicles from other areas that have sufficient hair to restore bald spots, uses a specially designed needle that is the same size as a hair follicle.

This needle has been specifically and exclusively designed by the DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) Global Medical Group, which has more than 46 years of experience in the hair transplantation industry and has operated in more than 60 clinics worldwide.

The advantage of using the DHI Global Medical Group’s specially designed needle is that it ensures that the follicles from the donor area are taken completely so that once they are planted on the bald spots, the area will be filled with hair within a short time period.

The needle also allows doctors and therapists to plant hair in certain directions, depths and angles so the results will look neat and natural.

After a successful implantation session, Auda added, the clinic would monitor the development of the newly planted hair regularly.

In most cases, clients will experience hair loss within the first two months after the procedure, but Auda said that it was a normal reaction and that it was nothing to worry about because the newly planted hair was going through a normal telogen phase, a stage in which the hair is resting.

“Afterwards, the hair will grow as usual. Within three months, clients are usually able to spot significant hair growth in their bald areas,” Auda said, adding that the success rate was at 97 percent. However, before undergoing the procedure, Auda said clients had to comply with several requirements before after the implantation.

“A week before the implantation, be planted using a specially our clients must quit designed needle. smoking. One day before, they must also stop consuming caffeine, vitamin C and aspirin because these substances may affect the inflammation taking place during the procedure,” Auda said.

“Three days after the procedure, we will ask our clients to return so that we can replace the bandage covering their heads and give them a thorough hair wash. One week later, we will monitor them regularly, and they can return to consuming what they used to consume before the procedure,” she added.

Another positive part of the procedure, Auda added, was that it did not only allow people to restore hair on their bald spots, but it also grew new hair in other areas. “The procedure is also suitable for people who want to grow beards or sideburns or chest hair,” Auda said. “What is important is that the donor hair follicles must come from the same person.”
