hile BlackBerry has been out of the smartphone spotlight for a while, bowing out in favor of giants like Samsung and Apple, it seems they’re gearing up with some new announcements.
After last month’s reveal of the BlackBerry KEYone, a smartphone complete with its signature QWERTY keyboard, the company has made it known that there are other new phones shipping with the BlackBerry name, even if they weren’t actually made by the BlackBerry company.
Last year, TCL acquired the exclusive rights to the brand and has been licensing its name. The company has said it is planning to continue to expand upon its licensing program to lend its name to other products, from wearables to non-mobile tech like medical devices and point-of-sale terminals.

BlackBerry CEO John Chen said as quoted by SlashGear that, “We are now expanding to the next phase of our licensing program. This will focus on a broader set of endpoints."
"What this might mean, and I make no promises, is that you may soon see a BlackBerry tablet and it will also extend to co-branded handsets with IoT and enterprise of things to EoT devices. These endpoints will run our software and security features and be co-branded Secure by BlackBerry," he added. (sul/kes)
