he Police Movie Festival, a part of the National Police’s program to increase the public’s trust in the institution, is returning for the fourth time with “Unity in Diversity” as its theme.

The public is invited to participate in the festival by submitting short films and animations, as well as criticism and input related to the National Police.

Festival chairman AKP Ardila Amry said the theme was chosen due to current issues in Indonesia. “The aftereffects of SARA [ethnicity, religion and race] issues could divide the nation,” he said, as quoted by Antara.

The event also aims to show sides of the police that people may not know about. “Because the public’s perception of the police is still limited to traffic ticketing," the National Police said on the festival's website.

Registration for the festival is open until June 1. The finalists will be announced on June 5, followed by the announcement of the winner at the Gandaria City shopping mall in South Jakarta on June 10, who will receive a Rp 90 million (US$6,772) cash prize.

There will be 10 short and three animation films screened during the ceremony to announce the winner. (mas/kes)
