The 54-year-old said she often debated with her children, even over small things. However, she was reluctant to be labeled unwilling to admit defeat during family discussions.

"It's common for parents and children to have differences," Sri Mulyani said.

The former World Bank managing director suspects her children bought the mug as a tongue-in-cheek nod to her role at home and at the office, where she is often involved in debates.

As the treasurer of the state, it is understood Sri Mulyani is often involved in fierce discussions in order to keep the balance sheet healthy.

When she uses the mug, Sri Mulyani said she is reminded by the words on the mug, likening it to another quote she had often come across when on duty in London, "Don't worry, you are only fifty."

"The message is a reminder to just live a happy life," Sri Mulyani said. (liz/kes)
