ndonesian film Tengkorak has had its world premiere at the 2018 Cinequest Film Festival, where it was nominated Best Film in the Science Fiction, Fantasy or Thriller category.

This year's Cinequest is being held in San Jose, California, United States, from Feb. 27 to March 11. According to its website, the festival’s highest honor, the Maverick Award, recognizes bold, visionary and creative forces. Tengkorak was scheduled for four screenings at Cinequest. The first screening took place on March 1 and the last one is slated for March 9. The film won a special award at the 2017 Jogja Asian Film Festival.

After each screening at Cinequest, it was reported that the Q&A sessions were lively and the filmmakers were inundated with questions. Most viewers commented on the distinct theme of the film.

A viewer, Roxanne, stated that the film was excellent and wonderfully executed. Another, Shah, pointed out the strong female lead character, who is a scientist and president.

Tengkorak, which was produced by teachers and students of Gadjah Mada University’s vocational school, is about the discovery of a giant skull following a major earthquake in Yogyakarta in 2006. The story describes the global chaos and conflict caused by the discovery. (wen)
