Director Edgar Wright has announced that he will be helming a documentary following the cult pop-rock band Sparks.

Wright, who recently directed 2017’s Baby Driver, confirmed that he was already pulling together archival material to be featured in the movie.

“I already shot their London concert in late May. The rest of is it [to be determined] and we’re currently scouring the archives,” Wright said to IndieWire. “I have been a fan of them since I saw them on ‘Top of the Pops’ in 1979 — and when I had Beat The Clock on vinyl.”

Sparks, comprised of brothers Ron and Russell Mael, was formed in 1972 and have since released 23 studio albums. Their most recent album, Hippopotamus, peaked at number seven on the United Kingdom albums chart.

While no distribution plans have been finalized, Wright already has producer Nira Park on the production team and MRC financing the film. (sul/wng)
