Tiffany from Girls’ Generation on Wednesday expressed support for the LGBTQ community in an open letter.

Writing for Billboard, the K-pop artist said she wanted to give “thanks” and express her “love” to the LGBTQ community for having given a great amount of “love, beauty, inspiration, and light in every corner of the world”.

The singer, who recently released the single “Over My Skin” in the US under her new stage name, Tiffany Young, said she was inspired by some of the uplifting themes of the community including self-love, unconditional love, acceptance and freedom of expression, when she felt “culturally misunderstood” as a Korean-American.

The letter, written in celebration of Pride Month, ended with “Fighting” in both Korean and English -- a word often used to express encouragement in Korea. Several pop stars including Ariana Grande and Jason Mraz were also asked by the media outlet to show support for the LGBTQ community.

In 2017, Girls’ Generation filmed a party-themed video for its single “All Night” with drag queens.

Tiffany was one of three members of Girls’ Generation who did not renew their contracts with S.M. Entertainment in October 2017. She inked a contract with Paradigm Talent Agency, which represents popular artists such as Diplo and Shawn Mendes, in June 2018.
