Dream come true, BNPB's Sutopo meets longtime idol Jokowi

Sutopo arrived at the palace earlier than scheduled and had time to share with journalists that while working for the BNPB, he often saw Jokowi when he visited the site of a disaster.

A

dream of National Disaster and Mitigation Agency (BNPB) spokesperson Sutopo Purwo Nugroho of meeting President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo came true on Friday afternoon.

According to kompas.com, Sutopo was welcomed by Jokowi at the Bogor Palace in West Java at 1:45 p.m.

Wearing a long-sleeved batik shirt, Sutopo shook hands with Jokowi immediately upon entering the room. 

"How are you, Pak Sutopo?" asked Jokowi, while inviting Sutopo to sit near him.

"Alhamdulillah [thank God] [I'm] in good health, Pak," said Sutopo, adding that he was grateful to finally be able to meet the President. "I've been wanting to meet [you] for a long time."

Reporters were allowed to take pictures only at the beginning of the meeting. However, Sutopo shared via Twitter that the President had wished him better health and that he could continue to serve the public.

Sutopo arrived at the palace earlier than scheduled and had time to share with journalists that while working for the BNPB, he often saw Jokowi when he came to monitor a disaster. However, he had never shaken hands nor spoken with him.

Sutopo, who has been diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer, made news recently following netizens' support for him to meet singer Raisa, whom he idolizes and often mentions on Twitter.

The two are scheduled to meet on Oct. 7. (kes)
