Mobile messaging app WeChat held on Sunday the WeChat Mini Games Developers Conference in San Francisco, the United States.

Mini Games is WeChat’s gaming platform that has garnered more than 300 million users since its release in April.

According to a release received by The Jakarta Post, WeChat showcased at the conference two of its most successful games, Wegoing and Tencent Billiards.

Wegoing boasts more than 100 million registered users, while Tencent Billiards has a 30-day user retention rate of 40 percent and daily transaction volume of over 10 million yuan (US$ 1.44 million).

WeChat also detailed how it provides traffic monetization through in-game item purchases and advertising. Game developers receive 100 percent of monthly in-game transaction volumes worth up to 500,000 yuan and 60 percent of any following transactions. They also receive up to 50 percent of in-game advertising revenue.

The Mini Games ecosystem has attracted the attention of global industry giants Google and Game Closure. Google has joined Guess My Sketch, a simple game that boasts a creative gameplay, while Game Closure’s entry Linsane Hoops has gained popularity through its friends-versus feature.

WeChat Mini Games is targeting to draw more international developers. With more than 1 billion active users, WeChat has immense potential in social media commercialization. (iru/mut)
