T

he interview is the part of a recruitment process candidates may find the most stressful. However, Interview HRD, a program from the Pijaru entertainment channel aired on YouTube, may change your perspective.

Interview HRD stars Getar, who plays a staff member in a human resource development (HRD) division, whose daily activity is interviewing "new candidates" for the company he works for. These "candidates" mostly come from the Indonesian entertainment industry, such as actor Nicholas Saputra, rapper Iwa K, actor Yayan Ruhian, actor Joe Taslim and singer Titi DJ. Interview HRD is often used to promote a film or event as well.

Aside from his bored facial expression, Getar is known for his signature laugh that will irritate any person he is talking to. “He’s actually bored with his job, because he has to interview people on a daily basis,” Getar Jagatraya, the scriptwriter and actor behind his namesake character, told The Jakarta Post at the Narasi Playfest event in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Nov. 25.

Interview HRD was launched in 2015 with the concept of video interview content. “My friend, Echan, pitched it, saying he wanted to make something different,” said the Jakarta Art Institute (IKJ) alumnus. “I was directly appointed as Getar and our manager approved it.”

Fluxcup, a YouTuber whose content involves lip-syncing and dubbing, joined the first episode that was aired in May 2017. The shooting took only 15 minutes with just one take. “We brief [the interviewee] that there’s this HR staff who doesn’t know anyone except himself and he will treat it as a job interview. That’s it,” said the son of late actor Didi Petet, adding that the most challenging episode was interviewing presenter Najwa Shihab.

“The most hilarious video was with Iwa K,” said Getar. “He was promoting his film at the time, and we wanted to interview him for his expertise in mengejek [poking fun at others]. Almost half of the video is about us mocking each other. We couldn’t stop laughing.”

However, Interview HRD is not designed to be funny – at least for Getar. “It’s just pure garing [crispy – a term used in Indonesian to label something as not funny], that’s why I don’t even know where the funny side is,” he said. “We just want to make exciting videos, and hopefully they are welcomed by our audience.” (kes)
