Year of the Pig calls for rational thinking According to feng shui expert Yulius Fang, the Year of the Earth Pig is a year for practicing self-control and caution. (fengshui.co.id/-)

With the Year of the Earth Pig set to begin, feng shui experts have made their beginning-of-the-year predictions.

According to them, things could get out of hand quickly if one does not practice a good amount of self-control.

Because of the ruling earth element prevailing over the Year of the Pig in 2019, the experts suggest we all heed warnings that prioritize rational thinking, with caution over moves that are too risky in various fields.

Character wise, the Earth Pig is said to be able to bring forth possible disruptions to various balances because of the negative characteristics of earth tainting the water element that also makes up the earth. The water aspect of the earth is seen as flexible and dynamic; a representation of calmness and rationality, which is in danger of being tainted by the negative aspects of the earth.

“Everything therefore risks being tainted and murky. This includes carrying out decisions that are either hasty or not thoroughly planned through. This is the main concern of this year, as such decisions are made by people who have the power to affect others,” feng shui expert Yulius Fang predicted.

“The Earth Pig’s positive aspects come mainly from the water: cautious, flexible and wise. The concerns and disadvantages of the Year of the Pig year are the tendencies to be more anxious, pessimistic, clumsy and impulsive. Therefore, one must exercise caution in every single thing they carry out. Taking massive risks is not recommended,” he added.

These warnings are directed mostly at the “unluckier” signs of 2019, which are the snake, monkey and tiger signs, although the tiger sign will fare slightly better. In order for the former two signs to survive the year, there needs to be a serious focus on making rational and clear-minded decisions, while also trying to avoid moves that will risk too much.

“This doesn’t just apply to those particular signs. Everyone should heed it because we have all entered a year where the setting is ripe for clumsiness," Yulius elaborated.

"It’s just safer to take the safe paths this year. Whether it be financial decisions, investments in volatile environments such as the stock market or the transportation that you take. Especially regarding the latter, water-based transportation and activity is advised to be steered clear of, because of what I said about the characteristics of earth making the water murky".

The activities and transportation he meant included those involving sea travel, such as boats, yachts, cruises, diving and the like.

The key to surviving the year, Yulius went on, was to abide by the qualities of wood, which is to focus more on cooperation and in the business world, mergers, in order to acquire a sense of stability. One can see possible examples of this tendency to think unclearly, such as what Yulius sees in the leaders of the United States and China at the moment.

“Particularly, the unlucky signs should seek the help and company of the luckier signs of 2019, which are the rabbit and the goat. Their positive aspects are able to balance out the negatives of the snake and the monkey signs, which could show signs of possible treachery or overall naughtiness. People of these signs are not something to be avoided though, as long as they abide by their clearer minds”.

Economy wise, Yulius predicted that the best performed businesses this year would obviously be those that had something to do with earth or metals: fashion, technology, digital, medical, books, furniture, textiles, energy, manufacturing, automotive, gold and agriculture. These sectors are the more advantageous because they abide by the aspects of wood.

However, sectors that have the character of “raw” wood might be the ones to think twice about, including timber, forestry, rubber and palm oil, because of the lessening demand for these sectors coupled with a greater supply. “These sectors are good too though. But their growth and development is prone to problems more than others”.

Businesses that have the fire element, such as insurance, entertainment, food and beverages and the stock market will also be strong this year, but only in the first half of the year. The unluckier businesses in both halves of 2019 will be those with the water element: travel, transport, shipping, communication, media, services, IT and food and beverages.

“Also in terms of the types of businesses, startups, digital businesses and small medium enterprises will grow better this year. Their characteristics are simpler and therefore can withstand any obstacle easier. Big sectors should actually focus more on exports to boost economic growth,” he said. (hdt)
