The red-headed doll will be making a return to the big screen as well as television screens, following Chucky creator Don Mancini’s latest cooperation with Syfy.
It has been a few years since terrifying killer doll Chucky has been on the big screen.
Soon, the red-headed doll will be making a return, to the big screen as well as television screens, following Chucky creator Don Mancini’s latest cooperation with Syfy. The NBCUniversal-owned cable network will debut the Child’s Play character, which has been adapted for television after Syfy closed the deal for the rights.
Mancini is set to write the script for the Chucky TV series, which is still purely in development, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The project comes six months after news broke that MGM is remaking Child’s Play for the big screen.
“I’ve long wanted to bring Chucky to television and Syfy is the perfect network for us,” said Mancini to THR.

“The show will be a fresh take on the franchise, allowing us to explore Chucky’s character with a depth that is uniquely afforded by the television series format, while staying true to the original vision that has terrorized audiences for over three decades now,” he was quoted as saying.
The original film franchise, which launched in 1988 with the title Child’s Play, consists of seven films written by Mancini and produced by David Kirschner. Grossing in excess of US$200 million worldwide, the films have also led to a wave of merchandising of video games, comic and other paraphernalia.

Universal Cable Productions is expected to be working with Mancini and Kirschner to produce the series in-house with Nick Antosca as the executive producer of the Chucky TV series.
“It’s very rare that you get the opportunity to bring such an iconic character to your network, let alone with the original creator attached,” said Bill McGoldrick, NBCU Cable Entertainment president of scripted.
“We look forward to working with Don, David and Nick on putting their blood, sweat, and more blood into bringing the Chucky story to television.”
Chucky brings the Antosca and Mancini duo back to Syfy after the cable network axed the anthology Channel Zero after its fourth season.
“Syfy is the perfect place to tell the next chapter in the Chucky saga and having the original creative team lead the project will help elevate the story we are excited to tell,” Antosca said.
Currently, there is no word on when the Chucky TV series is set to premiere. (geo/mut)
