Indonesian publishers short-listed for London Book Fair’s Excellence Awards

Since Indonesia will be the Market Focus Country at the upcoming event, the awards feature two special categories, namely The Market Focus Indonesia Children’s, Young Adult and Education Award and The Market Focus Indonesia Adult Trade Award.

he annual London Book Fair (LBF) book publishing trade fair announced the shortlist for the International Excellence Awards 2019 on Feb. 14.

The fair will be held on March 12-14 in Olympia, London. For the upcoming event, Indonesia is set to be the Market Focus Country, hence the awards featured two special categories, namely The Market Focus Indonesia Children’s, Young Adult and Education Award and The Market Focus Indonesia Adult Trade Award.

The nominees for the first category are Kepustakaan Populer Gramedia Publishing House, Bentang Pustaka and Noura Publishing.

Meanwhile, Educa Studio, Mizan and PT Bestari Buana Murni are short-listed in the second category.

According to the London Book Fair’s official website, the International Excellence Awards are held in partnership with the UK Publishers Association (PA), aiming to celebrate publishing success in 17 categories, representing the best publishing ambassadors, innovative publishing and ground-breaking initiatives in the industry.

For each category, the judging panel comprises experts in that particular sector.

In addition to the aforementioned categories, Indonesia is also nominated in four other categories: The Educational Initiatives Award, The Literary Translation Initiative Award, The Literary Festival Award and The Rights Professional Award.

Fair director Jacks Thomas said “The breadth of the sixth International Excellence Awards’ short list, with its impressive count of 26 countries, highlights how the global book industry is going from strength to strength. The nominees all showcase the diverse talent working in the publishing industry today, and I am thrilled to give them the international platform at the fair to showcase their success.” (jes/kes)
