Indonesian fashion designer Adrian Gan recently presented his couture collection in Jakarta.

Themed “ConQuerence”, the collection featured over 40 designs with unexpected twists on the Chinese traditional dress cheongsam.

Adrian is known for his intricate details along with a delicately fusing of western and eastern influences.

For the newest collection, the designer said that he ventured into the history of the Qing dynasty, which was noted for its loose silhouettes of cheongsam. He combined them with the romantic style of the United Kingdom’s regency era of the early 1800s.

In ConQuerence, cheongsams were presented in various silhouettes and motifs. Light colors of cream and ivory were accompanied with solid ones such as green and blue. There were notes of embroidery, Chinese traditional prints and patchwork.

Adrian also introduced a novel approach of using wool in cheongsam, as well as tulle for notable accents. The east-meets-west approach was particularly apparent in the jackets with Chinese-style buttons with great details and the high-necked dresses with exquisite tulle layers. (wng)
