K-pop fans rush to buy new Uniqlo x BTS mashup T-shirts

ans of K-pop sensation BTS have formed long lines in front of Uniqlo stores around Indonesia since early Friday morning, as the retail giant launched a T-shirt collection in collaboration with BTS and Line Friends.

The collection, called BT21, comprises 12 different designs, with the BTS members depicted in the style of Line Friends characters, with each T-shirt priced at Rp 149,000 (US$10.55).

Anticipating the many fans that would rush to buy out the collection, Uniqlo Indonesia announced on its Instagram account on Thursday that each customer could only buy one T-shirt of each design.

As expected, long queues to obtain the Uniqlo x BT21 T-shirts were seen at Uniqlo stores across Indonesia on Friday. North Jakarta's Kelapa Gading La Piazza Mall posted photos of the queue on its Instagram account on Friday afternoon.

Meanwhile, as reported by kompas.comfans formed long lines in front of the Uniqlo store in Grand Indonesia, Central Jakarta, stretching until the end of an escalator many meters away. Before queuing, buyers had to take a queue number inside the store. Two security guards were seen maintaining order of the line.

Previously, a Uniqlo T-shirt line made in collaboration with the artist KAWS (UT KAWS) was also highly anticipated and sold out. However, the retailer decided to provide additional stock in response to the high demand, which it announced on Twitter. (gis/mut)
