Spider-Man: Far From Home will hit local theaters in early July.
Actor Tom Holland will again portray Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, following his success in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Here are some facts about the film as revealed by the 23-year-old British actor during his recent visit to Bali.
How Spider-Man deals with life without Iron Man
In a trailer released in early May, Holland warned people to see Avengers: Endgame before watching the trailer. "If you haven't seen Avengers: Endgame yet, stop watching, because there's some serious spoilers about to come up. But if you have seen it, enjoy the trailer,” he said.
The trailer starts with the sad Spider-Man seeing Iron Man’s graffiti. “Everywhere I go, I see his face,” he says.
Set after Endgame’s epic final battle, Spider-Man: Far From Home shows how Spider-Man is dealing with life without his mentor.
“This film is an indirect continuity to Avengers: Endgame, in which we officially lost our hero, Iron Man. This film is kind of how we deal with a life without him. Peter Parker had a very special relationship with him; and it’s all about how he deals with that and realizes that the world needs him to step up and become the best Spider-Man he could ever be,” Holland said.
Following rumors that Holland could be the next Iron Man, he strongly denied it. “I could never be the next Iron Man because Robert Downey Jr. is the only Iron Man,” he said.
“I think this movie really is a fantastic kind of continuation of Endgame. And it is the perfect pick-me up [film], which is what the fans need,” he added.
When Parker is tired of being Spider-Man
Compared to the previous installment, Parker shows a different character in Spider-Man: Far From Home. The 16-year-old senior high school student is now eager to experience normal life as a teenager and no longer trying to be an Avenger.
Tom Holland particularly stated that Parker was tired of being Spider-Man.
“It’s interesting because in the first film, he was eagerly trying to become an Avenger. And in this film, he is eagerly trying not to be one. He is a 16-year-old kid and he wants to go on his school trip with his friend to Europe and experience life as a normal teenager,” Holland said.
“He is just tired of being Spider-Man,” he added.
Unfortunately, being a superhero is a responsibility that he cannot avoid.
“So, this film is all about him realizing that; with the loss of Iron Man, the world needs someone to step up in his place. And whether that is Spider-Man or not, he needs to be the one who steps up and makes a difference in the world and fight these elemental creatures that come through this dimensional rift to save the world,” Holland revealed.
Wrong pronunciation
As a Brit playing an American character, Holland had to talk in an American accent. However, he recently realized he got the accent wrong when saying "multiverse" in the film, after an American journalist pointed it out to him.
“I said ‘multi-vers’. But in America, they say ‘multai-vers’. So, I think I’ve got it wrong in the film,” he said, adding, “I think I’m gonna have to go back and rerecord how I say ‘multiverse’. Because I think I’ve got it wrong.”
Parker’s puppy love
Holland admitted that people can expect a love story to be told between Peter Parker and Zendaya’s character, Michelle Jones. However, don’t expect it to be more than puppy love.
“Yes, there is [a love story] in this film, which is a very lovely romance. It’s interesting and not your typical Hollywood kind of romance,” Holland said.
Holland emphasized that the love story would be really cute, fun and sweet. “I think fans will really really appreciate it,” he said.
A funnier friend
Parker’s best friend Ned Leeds (portrayed by Jacob Batalon) will return as a funnier person in Spiderman: Far From Home.
Tom Holland said that he really enjoyed working with Batalon in the movie and how one of his favorite dynamics in the film is between Batalon and Zendaya.
“Because when he finds out that she knows that I am Spider-Man, he gets really jealous that he is not the only one who knows. And it’s just really really funny that he has this kind of competition regarding who is a better Spider-Man friend. And I’m really excited to see how the things turned out,” Holland said. (kes)
