Stockholm Fashion Week has been cancelled, weeks before it was due to open its doors.

The Swedish Fashion Council has pulled the plug on the Spring/Summer 2020 edition of the event, which was scheduled to take place from August 27 through August 29, as reported by WWD.

"Stepping away from the conventional fashion week model has been a difficult, but much considered, decision," said Jennie Rosén, CEO of the Swedish Fashion Council.

"We need to put the past to rest and to stimulate the development of a platform that is relevant for today's fashion industry." Rosén added that rethinking its strategy would allow the Swedish Fashion Council to "adapt to new demands, reach sustainability goals and be able to set new standards for fashion."

Since 2005, Stockholm Fashion Week has typically been organized twice per year, offering a combination of exhibitions, fashion shows, press screenings and other public events and shining a spotlight on the nation's native creatives. It has attracted designers such as Per Götesson, Hope and House Of Dagmar.

The most recent edition was for Autumn/Winter 2019/20, which took place last February.
