ction star Joe Taslim has once again landed a role in a Hollywood movie. According to a recent announcement, he is to play the character of Sub-Zero in the live action adaptation of Mortal Kombat, dubbed the most lucrative video game franchise of all time.

Sub-Zero is an original character in the Mortal Kombat franchise, with the first version released in 1992. Mortal Kombat games have since successfully sold more than 49 million times.

Fans of the series recognize Sub-Zero as an iconic character known for his ice theme and enmity with his nemesis, Scorpion.

The Hollywood Reporter wrote that the movie is set to shoot later this year in southern Australia, and – by coincidence or not – Joe has posted photos of Adelaide in his Instagram account.

Meanwhile, the actor also posted a fan art impression of Sub-Zero on an Instagram story, saying, “Whoever made this, this one is a really cool Sub-Zero fan art...”

The film adaptation of the video game was produced by James Wan from Atomic Monster and became the debut for director Simon McQuoid. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the script will be written by Greg Russo, but the plot is unknown so far. 

Joe has previously starred in the films Fast & Furious 6, Star Trek Beyond and The Night Comes for Us on Netflix. (nic/mut)
